Underroof Privacy Policy

Effective July 1, 2026

Underroof helps you build a home inventory for insurance documentation. You record or upload a short video walkthrough of a room; the app identifies the items in it and gives you a list you can review and edit. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens to your data when you do that.

The short version:

• Your walkthrough video is used only to build your inventory list. We do not keep it.

• Your finished inventory is saved on your device, not on our servers.

• To recognize items, the app sends video frames to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing. They do not use it to train their models.

• No account is required. We don't sell your data, and we don't show you ads.

What we collect

The only thing you actively give Underroof is the video walkthrough you choose to record or upload, and any edits you make to the resulting item list. Underroof does not ask for your name, email, address, or contact list, and it does not require you to create an account.

How your video is used

When you submit a walkthrough, it is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our processing service. There, it is:

As soon as processing finishes — whether it succeeds or fails — the uploaded video is deleted from our service. It is never written to a database and never stored for later. We do not build a copy, an archive, or a backup of your video or images on our servers.

Where your inventory lives

The finished inventory — the item labels and the small thumbnail images that go with them — is stored locally on your device. Underroof does not keep a server-side copy of your inventory. If you delete the app, that data is gone from your device; because we never stored it, there is nothing on our side to delete.

AI processing and third parties

Underroof relies on two service providers to work:

We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

What we log

Our service keeps minimal operational logs to keep the app running and prevent abuse. These logs record only non-identifying details — the file type and size of an upload, how many frames were processed, and how many items were found. We do not log your filename, the contents of your video, the item labels, or any images.

Security

All data sent between the app and our service travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Because your video is processed and immediately discarded, and your inventory stays on your device, there is no central store of home imagery for someone to breach.

Children's privacy

Underroof is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

You decide what to record and whether to submit it. You can delete any inventory from within the app, and deleting the app removes all Underroof data from your device. Because we do not retain your video or your inventory on our servers, there is no separate data-deletion request to make.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Underroof handles your data — for example, if we later add optional cloud backup or accounts — we will update this policy and its effective date before that change takes effect. We will not let this policy describe more protection than the app actually provides.
